North Korean Delegations Visit Russia to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

North Korean economic and public health delegations have traveled to Russia, signaling increased collaboration between the two countries. Led by ministers from both fields, the delegations aim to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation following recent meetings on various topics. The strengthening of these ties follows a mutual defense treaty signed in June.

Recent reports from state news media indicate that North Korean delegations focusing on economic and public health issues have embarked on a visit to Russia. This trip marks a significant step in fostering active collaboration between the two nations.

Led by Yun Jong-ho, the Minister of External Economic Relations, the economic delegation departed Pyongyang on Monday. Although the specific agenda remains undisclosed, there is anticipation that discussions will revolve around enhancing bilateral economic ties.

This visit follows a meeting of the North Korea-Russia economic cooperation committee held in Pyongyang in November. Topics discussed during that meeting included energy, agriculture, science and technology, public health, and tourism initiatives.

Additionally, a separate public health delegation, guided by Public Health Minister Chon Sol-ryong, headed to Russia the previous day. The strengthening of ties between North Korea and Russia has accelerated since the mutual defense treaty was signed in June between Kim Jong-un and President Vladimir Putin.

In another development reported by KCNA, a delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry completed its visit to North Korea. Led by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, the Russian team held discussions with North Korean officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jong-gyu. Although specific details remain sparse, defense matters concerning North Korean troop deployments to Russia were likely topics of discussion.

In essence, the ongoing exchanges between North Korea and Russia, highlighted by recent delegations focusing on economic and public health matters, exemplify the growing bilateral cooperation. As both nations seek to enhance their relationship post-defensive treaty, discussions are expected to cover vital sectors critical to their mutual interests. The reinforced ties signify a strategic alignment, particularly in defense and economic cooperation.
