In a recent announcement, General Electric (GE) revealed the completion of 30 substations that will enhance Iraq’s electricity transmission networks. The company also outlined its strategic plans to transition from simple cycle to combined cycle production units, thereby increasing overall efficiency.
Rashid Al-Janabi, the director of GE in Iraq, noted the company’s substantial contributions to the energy sector, having added 19 gigawatts to the Iraqi electricity grid over the past decade. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Electricity in successfully implementing strategic energy projects.
He further elaborated on a long-term maintenance agreement with the Ministry, aimed at ensuring the operational readiness of a 7-gigawatt electricity generation system for the upcoming summer months. Al-Janabi is committed to upgrading power generation units by incorporating the latest GE Vernova technologies, which will improve production efficiency while reducing carbon emissions by 30 percent.
Regarding transmission improvements, Al-Janabi highlighted the successful completion of six 132 kV transmission stations, delivered significantly ahead of schedule. This achievement indicates noteworthy advancements in the execution of electricity transmission projects in Iraq.
