Nust and MTC Launch Innovative Bloomberg Finance Lab to Empower Future Leaders

Nust, in partnership with MTC and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy, has launched the first Bloomberg Finance Lab in Namibia, aimed at enhancing financial education and supporting youth and SME empowerment. This initiative highlights the importance of bridging theory and practice to prepare graduates for a competitive global economy.

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) has inaugurated the first Bloomberg Finance Lab in collaboration with Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy. This noteworthy event occurred on Tuesday and signals a significant step in enhancing financial education in Namibia.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Emma Kantema-Goamas, emphasized the lab’s vital role in empowering young individuals and small to medium enterprises (SMEs). She stated that this initiative aims to cultivate future investment leaders, enabling them to secure funding, manage risks, and create sustainable businesses that can transform the economy.

Nust Vice Chancellor Erold Naomab expressed his pride in the project, highlighting how the Bloomberg Finance Lab aligns with the university’s mission to produce skilled graduates. He asserted that it will bridge theoretical education and practical application, ensuring that Nust graduates are equipped to compete on a global scale.

MTC’s Chief Financial Officer, Thinus Smit, remarked on the dual purpose of the lab as both an educational resource and an industry catalyst. He conveyed that this initiative would facilitate financial inclusion, foster financial technology (fintech) innovations, and enhance investment literacy across various sectors, underlining the need for digital transformation in Namibia’s finance landscape.

In conclusion, the launch of the Bloomberg Finance Lab at Nust marks a progressive step towards advancing financial education in Namibia. With its focus on empowering youth and SMEs, the lab is set to enhance skills in financial management and investment. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of integrating digital transformation within the financial sector, promising to equip future leaders effectively for the challenges of the global economy.
