President Boluarte lamented the politicization of social demands by some authorities, affirming her government’s genuine dedication to reactivating halted hospital projects due to corruption. She highlighted the significance of collaboration between the Executive Branch and local governments in achieving social stability and successfully completing healthcare projects.
The modernization project for the hospital, which requires an investment of over $27 million, aims to elevate the facility’s classification from Level II-2 to Level III-1. This upgrade will provide comprehensive healthcare through 105 consultation rooms, 12 operating rooms, and various specialized services for residents of Apurimac and surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the President noted that this healthcare initiative will benefit more than three million people and demonstrate transparency through the government-to-government collaboration with the United Kingdom. She also mentioned that this project addresses longstanding issues regarding overcrowding in hospitals like Antonio Lorena Hospital in Cusco, which had been stalled due to corruption.
In a broader context, President Boluarte revealed the results of 18 regional hearings where many Peruvians expressed support for the death penalty, particularly for severe crimes such as child rape and femicide. She reiterated the government’s consideration of implementing the death penalty as a response to violent crimes against defenseless individuals.
