Voting participation for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election in the United States has experienced a remarkable increase, with figures more than doubling during the first week in comparison to the 2020 election. A press release issued on Monday explained that this election, held every five years, allows Jewish individuals in the US to influence Israel’s future and support Zionism on a global scale.
From March 3 to March 10, a total of 53,213 votes were cast, marking a 122% rise from the 23,938 votes recorded during the same timeframe in 2020. At this current rate, the election is poised to exceed the previous high of 123,575 votes, in stark contrast to the mere 7,639 votes cast in the first week of the 2015 election.
The elected 152 delegates from the US will make up about one-third of the World Zionist Congress, connecting with worldwide representatives to define the leadership and priorities of key organizations such as the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the Jewish Agency for Israel. These decisions will impact the distribution of over $1 billion each year to support Israel and Jewish communities globally.
Herbert Block, Executive Director of the American Zionist Movement (AZM), expressed his enthusiasm regarding the voter turnout, stating, “We are gratified to see the unprecedented voter participation in the election’s first week and anticipate that this pattern will continue throughout the voting period.” He emphasized the significance of American Jewish participation, asserting it signifies a proud commitment to Zionism and acknowledges the critical junctures facing Jewish and Israeli futures.
This election features a record 22 groups representing various political views, religious affiliations, and cultural traditions, a 57% increase from the 14 groups that participated in 2020. Additionally, over 2,900 candidates from 43 states and territories are competing, representing more than a 60% increase compared to the previous election.
The 39th World Zionist Congress is scheduled to convene in Jerusalem from October 28 to 30, 2025, following this year’s election.
The significant boost in voter participation for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election reflects a heightened commitment among American Jews to engage in shaping the future of Israel and global Jewish communities. With record numbers of both voters and candidates and an expanded range of competing groups, this election may set new precedents in Zionist engagement. The upcoming Congress promises to greatly influence the allocation of substantial resources to support Jewish priorities worldwide.
