Female diplomats and representatives from United Nations agencies praised Ethiopia’s innovative laws aimed at enhancing women’s empowerment during an event commemorating International Women’s Day. This celebration, marked by the 2025 Safaricom Women First 5km run in Addis Ababa, highlighted the significance of inclusive development that actively involves women at every level.
Margaret Atieno, Deputy Representative of UNHCR in Ethiopia, underscored the crucial role of education in enabling women to seize opportunities. Meanwhile, EU Ambassador Sofie From-Emmesberger recognized the government’s dedication to various initiatives focused on empowering women, stressing that these efforts should foster broader societal benefits.
