Majur, who tragically lost his life on March 7 along with 27 bodyguards during a UNMISS evacuation attempt in Nasir County, was honored by a significant gathering of government and military leaders.
Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel emphasized the need for unity and dialogue among South Sudan’s citizens during the ceremony. He remarked, “We all call for dialogue, and dialogue brings peace. We must unite and live together … refrain from revenge because revenge does not take people anywhere.” His words highlighted the importance of composure during this painful moment.
Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk extended gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for authorizing a state funeral for the late general, acknowledging the significance of honoring a fallen leader. Gen. Paul Nang Majok, Chief of Defense Forces, praised Lt. Gen. Majur as a courageous figure, noting his dedication to the SPLA’s identity. “We are very proud of Lieutenant General David Majur Dak, who died as a hero … he symbolized the identity of the SPLA soldiers,” he stated, reinforcing the legacy of the late commander. He also assured the public that the SSPDF would work to recover the bodies of other troops lost during the incident.
