Mozambique’s President Attends Namibia’s Presidential Inauguration and Independence Celebrations

Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo visits Namibia to attend the inauguration of President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and the 35th Independence Day celebrations. The visit emphasizes strengthening bilateral relations and includes a series of official activities from March 21. Chapo is accompanied by the First Lady and key government officials, reflecting growing collaboration between the two countries.

The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, departed for Namibia on Thursday at the invitation of President Nangolo Mbumba. His visit primarily aims to attend the inauguration ceremony of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia’s President-elect, taking place on March 21. Additionally, President Chapo will participate in the celebrations for Namibia’s 35th Independence Day at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.

The Mozambican president’s visit, lasting until March 21, will see him engage in various significant activities designed to strengthen the diplomatic relations between Mozambique and Namibia. This trip provides an opportunity for further cooperation, as President Chapo plans to meet with other heads of state present at the ceremony to foster strategic partnerships between the two nations.

Joining President Chapo on this diplomatic mission are First Lady Gueta Chapo, Foreign Minister Maria Manuel dos Santos Lucas, and representatives from various Mozambican governmental institutions. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, aged 72 and the current vice president, will officially assume the presidency on March 21, following her victory in the November elections, where she secured 57.31% of the votes, ensuring SWAPO’s continued governance in Namibia.

Nandi-Ndaitwah will take over from Nangolo Mbumba, who has held the position of interim president since the passing of former president Hage Geingob last February. Namibia, having gained independence from Germany in 1990, is now poised to strengthen regional ties with Mozambique, focusing on economic, diplomatic, and developmental collaboration.

In summary, President Daniel Chapo’s visit to Namibia emphasizes significant diplomatic relations, especially with the inauguration of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as president. This occasion not only reflects historical ties but also highlights ongoing partnerships aimed at enhancing economic and regional development between the two sovereign nations.
