The construction of a lithium processing plant in Zvishavane, owned by Zheli Mining Investments, is nearing completion, with the final phase almost finished. This US$1.5 million facility has the capacity to process 500 tonnes of ore per day and is anticipated to commence operations next month.

Owen Ncube, the Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, emphasized the strategic significance of this project. During a recent site tour, he remarked, “We gather here not only to witness the remarkable advancement in lithium mining, but also to reflect on the broader potential of our province’s rich mineral endowments, which include gold in various districts. These resources are vital to our national socio-economic development and integral to the aspirations outlined in our Vision 2030.”

Kudakwashe Zimhondi, the General Manager of Zheli Mining Investments, expressed confidence in the project’s progress, noting, “We have since completed the installation phase and conducted a dry run to test its efficiency. So far, we are excited about the results.” He also highlighted the pivotal role of government support in fostering an environment conducive to investment in the lithium industry.

Once operational, the lithium plant is expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents, thereby contributing to economic empowerment and skills development in Zvishavane. Zimbabwe aims to solidify its position in the global lithium market, attracting significant investments in this sector.
