Despite the passage of several weeks, Laghari’s family continues to be distressed, as his location remains unknown, inciting outrage among Sindhi nationalists.
In their press release, JSFM stated that Laghari’s case exemplifies a troubling trend of oppression against Sindhi activists by the Pakistani state. The movement asserted, “Pakistan continues to forcibly disappear Sindhi activists, journalists, and human rights defenders, using fear and repression to silence those who demand justice and self-determination.”
JSFM also accused the Pakistani government of conducting an economic and environmental assault on Sindh, specifically citing the illegal construction of six canals on the Indus River. This diversion of water towards Punjab is said to jeopardize the livelihoods of millions of Sindhis, leaving them without essential resources. According to JSFM, “This is a direct threat to Sindh’s existence.”
Significant protests arose in response to these concerns, notably a demonstration organized by the World Sindhi Congress (WSC) outside the Pakistan Embassy in London on March 15, 2025. Attended by JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro, the protest aimed to draw global attention toward the illegal canal construction and the plight of abducted Sindhi activists.
Abro emphasized the urgency of the situation, declaring, “We demand the immediate release of Taiib Laghari and all forcibly disappeared Sindhi activists. Pakistan must be held accountable for its ongoing policy of enforced disappearances.” He further called for an end to the canal construction and recognition of the Sindhi nation’s right to self-determination.
JSFM is urging international organizations, including the United Nations, the British Parliament, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch, to take action against the alleged human rights abuses by Pakistan. JSFM’s statement concluded firmly, asserting, “Sindh is under attack—its people are being abducted, and its water is being stolen. The world cannot remain silent while Pakistan continues its crimes against the Sindhi nation.”
