President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. demonstrated his enthusiasm for enhancing diplomatic relations with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine during separate ceremonies at Malacañan Palace in Manila. He received the credentials of Ambassadors Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, Sin Saream of Cambodia, and Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine, expressing optimism regarding their roles in strengthening ties.
Marcos noted, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries” – Presidential Communications Office. Ambassador Rojas emphasized a shared vision of lasting peace and development between Colombia and the Philippines, highlighting the establishment of diplomatic relations since July 5, 1946, and the presence of nearly 100 Filipinos in Colombia.
In addition, President Marcos aimed to fortify relationships with Cambodia, acknowledging the strong foundation already in place between the two nations. He stated, “I welcome you to the Philippines and I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries”. Ambassador Sin Saream expressed his commitment to enhancing cooperation for the mutual benefit of both Filipinos and Cambodians, who have been tied diplomatically since August 20, 1957, with approximately 7,500 Filipinos currently residing in Cambodia.
Furthermore, Ambassador Fediv pledged her readiness to bolster bilateral relations, particularly concerning initiatives that promote peace, prosperity, and mutual respect. Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ steadfast support for Ukraine, stating, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace”. Diplomatic relations with Ukraine were established on April 7, 1992, with about 24 Filipinos living in the country.
