President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about strengthening ties with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine as he welcomed the new ambassadors. He highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration and expressed unwavering support for Ukraine’s peace efforts, while acknowledging the historical diplomatic relations with all three nations.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed confidence in enhancing relations with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine during the presentation of new ambassadors at Malacañan Palace. He emphasized the potential for deeper collaboration across various sectors with Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito from Colombia, citing a mutual aspiration for lasting peace and development.

Rojas Garavito affirmed that Colombia shares similar goals with the Philippines, as diplomatic ties were established on July 5, 1946, and noted the presence of around 100 Filipinos in Colombia. Additionally, President Marcos discussed strengthening partnerships with Cambodia, recognizing the strong foundation already in place.

He welcomed Ambassador Sin Saream, who committed to enhancing cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations. Diplomatic relations with Cambodia were formalized on August 20, 1957, and about 7,500 Filipinos currently reside there. Furthermore, Marcos reiterated support for Ukraine, expressing solidarity amid the ongoing peace efforts during his meeting with Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv.

Marcos noted the importance of bilateral discussions and pledged continued support for Ukraine’s peace initiatives. Since the formal establishment of diplomatic ties on April 7, 1992, the Philippine community in Ukraine consists of approximately 24 individuals.
