During the presentation titled “Next Level Statistics to Support Nigeria’s Reform and Growth Agenda,” Mr. Johan Mistiaen emphasized the need for substantial investment in Nigeria’s statistical infrastructure. He recommended an annual budget of $10 million to $15 million to elevate the nation’s statistics to a level comparable to its aspirational partners.
Minister Bagudu responded positively, assuring that the Federal Government would uphold the independence of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). He commended the NBS for its reliability in producing credible data utilized by major international organizations, reiterating the government’s commitment to non-interference.
Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician-General and CEO of the NBS, acknowledged that increased investment in statistical capabilities would be instrumental in driving national growth. He also expressed appreciation for the government’s heightened budgetary allocation to the NBS, the highest in a decade, while advocating for continued funding and collaboration with development partners to enhance outcomes further.
