ReconAfrica has expedited the spud date for the Prospect I well in Namibia to Q2 2025, with ongoing surveying, debushing, and upcoming demining efforts. The site is expected to penetrate significant oil and gas reserves, bolstered by successful prior drilling results.
Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. is advancing its drilling plan for the Prospect I exploration well in Namibia. Initial surveying activities are complete, while debushing is in progress. Demining efforts are scheduled for the upcoming weeks, prompting ReconAfrica to bring forward the spud date for Prospect I to the second quarter of 2025.
Brian Reinsborough, President and CEO of ReconAfrica, stated, “We have made great progress in getting Prospect I ready to drill and, as a result, we are accelerating the spud date into Q2 2025.” He highlighted the commencement of community engagement and the ongoing surveying, debushing, and demining activities, which will precede the construction of a 10-km access road and drilling pad.
The Prospect I site is among the largest mapped structures in the Damara Fold Belt, exhibiting a four-way dip closure, and is anticipated to reach over 1,500 meters of the Otavi reservoir. Previous drilling at the Naingopo well, located in the Damara Fold Belt, has reduced risk at Prospect I by confirming hydrocarbon presence in the Otavi carbonates and shows of oil.
The potential of Prospect I is significant, with estimates of 365 million barrels of unrisked and 32 million barrels of risked prospective light to medium oil resources, as well as 1.7 trillion cubic feet of unrisked and 126 billion cubic feet of risked prospective natural gas resources. These figures are based on a report from Netherland, Sewell, & Associates, Inc. (NSAI), designated as location 63 in their findings.
ReconAfrica is making substantial strides towards drilling the Prospect I exploration well in Namibia, moving the spud date to Q2 2025. With the affirmation of hydrocarbon presence from previous drilling, the site presents a promising opportunity for oil and gas resources. Continuous progress in preparatory activities reflects the company’s commitment to explore the vast potential of the Damara Fold Belt.
