During a gathering hosted by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Coventry was celebrated for her historic election, which he hailed as evidence of Africa’s readiness for leadership at a global level. Mnangagwa expressed, “The victory of Honourable Coventry is, thus, not only a source of inspiration and pride for Zimbabwe, but for the SADC region and Africa as a whole… You are not only our national treasure, but a treasure to all young athletes across Africa and the developing world.”

In Parliament, Togarepi acknowledged Coventry’s achievements in swimming, which instilled pride in the nation during the Olympics. He emphasized, “I would want to say to her and her family together with the people of Zimbabwe, we are excited, proud of her achievement and we hope and trust that she is going to hold high the Zimbabwean flag.”

Togarepi further mentioned the potential this achievement holds, especially for the youth, remarking, “If you put your time and commitment to your talent, you can achieve a lot. Here today, we have a Zimbabwean and an African on top of the world.” Shakespear Hamauswa, a legislator from Warren Park, expressed anticipation that the chief whip would propose a celebratory event in light of Coventry’s significant contributions as a member of Parliament and a former minister.

In summary, the Parliament of Zimbabwe is set to honor Kirsty Coventry with a farewell party following her election as president of the International Olympic Committee.
