President RubyAnn Sorovaki-Bainimarama has expressed her concern and is seeking guidance on how to address the situation effectively.
Reports indicate that these 15 member associations are calling for a change in leadership within Netball Fiji. Although Sorovaki acknowledged that the motions presented at the meeting were constitutional, she emphasized that the leadership preferred for the representatives to remain and engage in discussions rather than exiting the meeting. The meeting was organized by Alumeci Vosararawa-Sachs, president of the Suva Netball Association, along with heads from other associations.
Vosararawa-Sachs articulated the frustrations of the member associations, stating, “Without us (netball associations) they are nothing,” underscoring the importance of the regional bodies in supporting Netball Fiji. A primary concern addressed by the associations was the composition of the Fiji Pearls team, which currently consists solely of players from Suva. This exclusion of players from other regions is seen as a significant issue for the associations involved.
Moreover, Vosararawa-Sachs declared, “We will not be affiliated [with Netball Fiji] under the leadership of RubyAnn Sorovaki-Bainimarama and the executives.” She further indicated plans to pursue judicial advice from World Netball and notify the Ministry of Justice about potentially deregistering Netball Fiji if changes are not implemented.
