Caledonia Mining Corporation has announced initial exploration results from the Motapa project in Zimbabwe, revealing significant gold mineralisation over a strike length of 9 km. The exploration included extensive drilling, with encouraging high-grade results. The study positions Motapa as a key element in the Company’s growth strategy, particularly in complementing its adjacent Bilboes Gold Project.
Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has released the inaugural results from its exploration program at the Motapa project, which was acquired in November 2022. Situated adjacent to the Bilboes Gold Project in southern Zimbabwe, Motapa has seen a combination of diamond drilling (DD) and reverse circulation (RC) drilling, aimed at exploring the continuity of sulphide zones beneath historical open pits. These efforts have yielded encouraging findings, particularly in terms of gold mineralisation in both shallow and deep zones. To date, the exploration program has involved a comprehensive effort, including 12,724 meters of trenching, 4,143 meters of diamond drilling, and 5,433 meters of reverse circulation drilling. The initial drilling results showed widespread gold mineralisation across a strike length exceeding 9 kilometers, with significant high-grade gold intercepts identified in multiple areas, such as Jupiter, Pluvious, and Mpudzi. These regions will be prioritized for follow-up drilling to define an opencast mineral resource. Notable drilling results include: – Hole JPRC01: 12.00 m at 6.36 g/t from 81 m downhole (RC) – Hole JPRC05: 13.00 m at 5.17 g/t from 88 m downhole (RC) – Hole PLVRC06: 7.00 m at 3.27 g/t from 64 m downhole (RC) – Hole MPZRC02: 4.00 m at 10.95 g/t from 12 m downhole (RC) – Hole JDD08: 14.00 m at 3.20 g/t from 63 m downhole (DD) – Hole PLVDD01: 8.00 m at 4.00 g/t from 74 m downhole (DD).
Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has been engaged in the exploration of gold deposits in Zimbabwe, an area with significant potential due to the historical presence of gold mining activities. The Motapa project represents a strategic addition to the Company’s portfolio, positioning it adjacent to the established Bilboes Gold Project. The integrated drilling campaign aims to further understand the mineral potential at Motapa, particularly focusing on sulphide zones that might enhance the overall resource base for future mining operations.
In summary, the recent exploration results by Caledonia Mining Corporation at the Motapa project indicate promising gold mineralisation, reflecting the project’s potential to contribute significantly to the Company’s development strategy. The results underscore the strategic importance of the Motapa site adjacent to Bilboes, aligning with the Company’s aims to expand its high-grade gold mining operations in Zimbabwe. Continued exploration in the identified areas will provide clearer insights into the resource availability and potential for opencast development.
