Shahid Aslam Reappointed as Pakistan Batting Coach

The PCB has appointed Shahid Aslam as batting coach for the national white-ball teams, following Mohammad Yousuf’s resignation from the position. Aaqib Javed, the interim white-ball head coach, recommended Aslam. Javed will also lead the team in upcoming matches in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reinstated Shahid Aslam as the batting coach for the national white-ball teams, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Tuesday. Shahid Aslam, a qualified coach, has previously held various roles within the Pakistan cricket structure, including assistant coach and fielding coach. For the past two years, he has been involved at the High Performance Centre in Lahore. His return follows Mohammad Yousuf’s resignation from the position of batting coach as well as from his role as national selector. Aaqib Javed, the new interim coach, recommended Shahid for this position. Meanwhile, Aaqib Javed has been appointed the head coach of the white-ball team until the ICC Champions Trophy, taking over after Australian Jason Gillespie declined the all-format coaching offer. Javed will join the team in Zimbabwe for a series including three ODIs and three T20 Internationals before continuing to South Africa for another set of matches.

The appointment of a batting coach within the PCB is crucial for enhancing the team’s performance in international cricket, particularly in limited-overs formats. Shahid Aslam’s extensive experience in various coaching roles equips him well for this position, especially following the team’s recent changes in staffing. His predecessor, Mohammad Yousuf, who had transitioned from batting coach to national selector, resigned from both roles, paving the way for Aslam’s return. Aaqib Javed’s recommendation for Aslam’s appointment indicates confidence in his strategic approach to batting development, as he aims to build a resilient white-ball team ahead of important tournaments.

Shahid Aslam’s appointment as the batting coach of the Pakistan national white-ball teams is a significant development, emphasizing the PCB’s commitment to strengthening its coaching staff. Aslam’s prior experience and recent role at the High Performance Centre are expected to contribute positively to the team’s performance. With Aaqib Javed leading as head coach, Pakistan will be strategically positioned as they head into key series and the ICC Champions Trophy.
