On November 28, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, held conversations with his Ugandan counterpart, Hon. John Mulimba, focusing on both bilateral and regional topics of mutual significance. The discussions emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and investment ties between Ethiopia and Uganda, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Ambassador Mesganu highlighted the critical nature of collaboration in addressing transnational issues such as violent extremism, environmental degradation, climate change, and human trafficking.
Furthermore, the Ethiopian State Minister stressed the necessity of cooperation in the sustainable management of transboundary resources and ensuring peace and security in the region while pursuing a political resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. In response, Hon. Mulimba reiterated Uganda’s dedication to strengthening relations with Ethiopia, particularly in light of the current regional developments. He emphasized the importance of adopting a pan-African strategy for the fair distribution of shared resources.
Both officials agreed to convene the Fourth Joint Ministerial Commission early in the coming year in Addis Ababa, underscoring their commitment to deepening collaboration across various sectors.
