In a letter to Felix Nguele Nguele, the South Region Governor, the party accused local administrative units of exploiting citizens while government officials lead lavish lifestyles.
Citizens across 29 subdivisions are reportedly compelled to pay between 5,000 and 7,000 CFA francs for administrative procedures, such as filing documents. Those who refuse to pay risk having their submissions rejected and additionally must cover the costs of file transmissions to law enforcement agencies. The SDF also criticized the poor infrastructure in administrative offices, including a lack of essential equipment and facing frequent power outages.
Moreover, the SDF highlighted the disparity between the comfort of government officials and the inadequacies faced by citizens. Each sub-prefect is entitled to a service vehicle valued at approximately 50 million CFA francs and additional perks such as housing and fuel vouchers. The party pointed out that the government has invested a staggering 1.45 billion CFA francs for vehicles for local administrators while neglecting basic office needs.
To resolve this, the SDF recommends a more efficient allocation of funds. Instead of spending on luxury vehicles, the party suggests purchasing desktop computers, generators, and motorcycles for administrative use, which would significantly improve public service delivery at a lower cost of around 49.3 million CFA francs.
Additionally, the SDF calls for comprehensive reforms to improve public administration and ensure fair service delivery for all citizens. By reallocating resources to essential areas, the party believes that it is possible to both enhance administrative efficiency and alleviate the financial strain on the populace arising from illegal fees. The recommendations presented by the SDF highlight a pressing need for increased transparency and accountability in Cameroon’s government.
