Lance Domm, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, expressed his disappointment regarding the early exits of both England and Pakistan from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but he praised Pakistan’s hosting of the event as a remarkable success. In an interview with Geo News, he acknowledged the tournament’s significance as the first ICC event held in Pakistan in 29 years, which drew international teams and fans alike to the country.

Despite the disappointing performances of both teams, Domm reflected positively on the tournament atmosphere, saying, “I was at the Pakistan-New Zealand match. And it was a brilliantly hosted event. The stadium was fantastic. The atmosphere was wonderful.” He congratulated Pakistan, asserting, “Even though the teams (Pakistan and England) are not doing so well, I do want to congratulate Pakistan for organising a fantastic tournament.”

Emphasizing the unifying nature of cricket, Domm remarked, “The culture of cricket is something special. We have a shared passion, Pakistan and England, for cricket. It’s such a wonderful way to bring people together.” He noted the camaraderie observed amongst fans from Pakistan and England, enjoying their time together in Karachi and other cities.

He reminisced fondly about his childhood admiration for Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler, Wasim Akram, stating, “My first memory is of Wasim Akram destroying England’s cricket teams. He was fantastic.” Although acknowledging that the current Pakistan team faces challenges, he remained optimistic, asserting, “One win leads to other wins.”

As a newly appointed Deputy High Commissioner, Domm voiced his enthusiasm for not only exploring Karachi but also enhancing trade relations between the UK and Pakistan, highlighting existing investments of around $60 billion annually. He expressed eagerness to experience Karachi’s renowned cuisine, despite the spiciness being a slight challenge for him, noting, “The food is actually spectacular.”

An avid sports enthusiast, Domm also shared his passion for tennis and football, mentioning his plans to engage in local sports activities, including aspirations to participate in the Karachi half-marathon next year.

In conclusion, Lance Domm has expressed both disappointment at the early exits of England and Pakistan from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and admiration for Pakistan’s successful hosting of the tournament. His reflections on the importance of cricket as a unifying force and his personal experiences emphasize the cultural significance of the event. Furthermore, Domm’s commitment to exploring Karachi and enhancing UK-Pakistan trade relations highlights his engagement with the region during his tenure.
