Nahom Araya Triumphs in Stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda; Doubey Retains Yellow Jersey

On March 1, Nahom Araya won Stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda, completing the race in 3:09:23. Fabien Doubey reclaimed the yellow jersey from teammate Joris Delbove, while Vainqueur Masengesho improved his ranking in the general classification. The final stage will take place on March 2.

Eritrean cyclist Nahom Araya from the Eritrean National Team secured victory in Stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda, traversing the 131.5-kilometer route from Nyanza to Canal Olympia (Rebero) in a remarkable time of 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 23 seconds on Saturday, March 1. Despite Rwandan rider Moise Mugisha leading the peloton for the last 3 kilometers, Araya demonstrated his competitive spirit by overtaking him with just 10 seconds remaining, while Mugisha ultimately finished in sixth place.

In this stage, Frenchman Fabien Doubey of TotalEnergies reclaimed the coveted yellow jersey, previously lost to teammate Joris Delbove during Stage 4, which took place from Rubavu to Karongi. The Eritrean national team celebrated their return to the podium after Henok Mulubrhan’s initial win in Stage 1. Notably, Mulubrhan currently stands in third place in the general classification.

Furthermore, Vainqueur Masengesho, the leading Rwandan cyclist, advanced from ninth to seventh in the overall standings, finishing 54 seconds behind Araya in this stage. The final stage of the Tour, a 74-kilometer circuit race around the Kigali Convention Centre—designated for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships—will be conducted on Sunday, March 2.
