Fr Álvaro Pacheco Carve Appointed Provincial of Argentina-Uruguay Province

Father Álvaro Pacheco Carve has been appointed as Provincial of the Argentina-Uruguay Province by Father General Arturo Sosa. Born in Montevideo, he has a strong legal and theological background, having served in various academic and pastoral capacities prior to this appointment. He is currently the Rector of the Seminary College in Montevideo.

Father Álvaro Pacheco Carve has been appointed as the new Provincial of the Argentina-Uruguay Province by Father General Arturo Sosa. Born on October 7, 1965, in Montevideo, Fr. Álvaro has a legal background and joined the Society of Jesus Novitiate in Córdoba in 2001. His educational qualifications include studying philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay and theology at Centre Sèvres in Paris. He holds both a Master’s and a Doctorate in Canon Law and Philosophy of Law from Université Paris II, Institut Catholique de Paris, and Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). Ordained a priest in 2010 by Bishop Nicolás Cotugno at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Montevideo, Fr. Álvaro has held several significant positions. Between 2011 and 2021, he was the Director of the Department of Philosophy, Dean of Law, and Vice-Rector for University Environment at the Catholic University of Uruguay. Furthermore, he acted as Parish Administrator of Nuestra Señora de Fátima in Montevideo from 2014 to 2018 and has served as a Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Montevideo since 2012. Currently, Fr. Álvaro holds the positions of Rector of the Seminary College in Montevideo and Superior of its community.
