Malaysia’s digital transformation progresses with 19 MoUs signed at MWC 2025, showcasing collaborations between local firms and global tech leaders in areas such as AI, 5G, and telecommunications, emphasizing innovation and benefits for citizens.
Malaysia is making significant strides in its digital transformation efforts by signing 19 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with global technology leaders at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching noted that these agreements highlight the industry’s commitment to innovation in technology, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, and telecommunications.
Teo expressed her hope that these MoUs will yield tangible benefits for Malaysian citizens, stating, “They showed their commitment to bringing digital changes to Malaysia. I hope these MoUs will bring more benefits to the citizens.” She also conveyed confidence that MWC would enhance international recognition of Malaysia’s potential in the digital landscape.
Significant partnerships emerged from these MoUs, including a collaboration between CelcomDigi and Ericsson designed to transform the oil and gas sector through 5G technology. Additionally, CelcomDigi has teamed up with Huawei to create an AI-driven fixed-mobile convergence network.
Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) has joined forces with Ericsson to expedite the use of 5G technologies further, and it has collaborated with META for the DNB Experience Centre, improving the quality of remote tower centre (RTC) experiences. Moreover, YTL Communications and Equinix are partnering for global AI cloud enablement and sustainable infrastructure, while Maxis and Huawei are working together to propel digital intelligent transformation.
The MWC, the premier connectivity event globally, brings together leaders, innovators, and policy-makers to showcase new advancements in mobile technology and digital transformation. This year’s 19th edition highlighted Malaysia’s technological progress and its pivotal role in 5G deployment and collaborative innovation in the ASEAN region.
The recent signing of 19 MoUs at the MWC 2025 marks a significant milestone for Malaysia’s digital transformation. These agreements illustrate a strong commitment from local and international industry players to foster innovation across various sectors. As Malaysia establishes itself as a leader in technology and connectivity, it is expected that these initiatives will provide substantial benefits to its citizens and enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure.
