Fierce Clashes Erupt Between Sudanese Army and RSF in Ongoing Conflict

Intense fighting persists between the Sudanese army and RSF in Khartoum and Sennar State, leading to civilian casualties from shelling. The army claims successful operations against RSF forces, asserting control over Sennar. The ongoing conflict, which started in April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and vast displacement.

Fierce clashes are ongoing between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum and southeastern Sennar State. Reports indicate that heavy weapons have been utilized, with explosions heard and smoke rising in central Khartoum. Additionally, fighting has been reported in the Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum areas, identified as the last strongholds of the RSF in Sennar State.

In a tragic incident, a relief committee in El-Fasher, North Darfur, reported that six individuals were killed and many injured due to RSF shelling on the Abu Shouk displacement camp. Darfur Governor Arcua Minnawi condemned these actions as significant humanitarian violations, citing the RSF’s siege and starvation of residents as crime.

The Khartoum State Health Ministry confirmed that a child was killed and five civilians injured due to artillery shelling by the RSF in the residential district of Omdurman, affecting the Al-Thawra neighborhood and a girls’ school. No responses were provided by the RSF regarding these accusations.

Sudan’s armed forces later reported a successful coordinated operation to dismantle RSF units in several areas, claiming full control over Sennar State after recapturing Dali and Al-Mazmum. The RSF remains in limited areas of White Nile and Blue Nile states, while the conflict has led to over 20,000 deaths and 14 million displacements since its onset in April 2023, according to UN estimates, with some research indicating a death toll near 130,000.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan between the army and the RSF has resulted in significant casualties and humanitarian crises. Recent reports detail heavy clashes, civilian fatalities due to shelling, and the RSF’s siege tactics. Meanwhile, the Sudanese army has made territorial gains, asserting control over certain regions while the death toll continues to rise alarmingly since the conflict began.
