Investigation Launched into Kera Gummies for Misleading Fiber Claims

The Food Safety Authority is investigating Kera Gummies after claims of low fiber content contradict advertising. Despite claims of containing substantial fiber, tests revealed minimal amounts. The producer, Asia Life, is under review, while Kera asserts quality and licensing compliance. Experts caution against replacing fresh foods with supplements like gummies.

The Food Safety Authority has mandated local authorities to scrutinize the manufacturing practices of Kera Gummies, which are marketed as a ‘vegetable replacement.’ Investigations will also extend to their promotional activities on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok, suspected of disseminating misleading information.

Kera Gummies have garnered attention following consumer complaints regarding their low fiber content, significantly lower than what was advertised. Claims that one gummy substitutes a serving of vegetables have been contested, leading one consumer to test a box of 30 gummies, which revealed a disappointing fiber content of merely 0.51 grams, far less than the fiber in 100 grams of a banana.

The World Health Organization recommends a daily fiber intake of at least 25 grams for adults, translating to approximately 50 gummies to meet this requirement. Authorities in Dak Lak Province are currently reviewing the manufacturing and licensing of Asia Life, the producer of Kera Gummies.

In response to the controversy, Kera Vietnam has maintained that its products are composed of high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and claims each gummy possesses over 200 milligrams of fiber, according to a report by Avatek Science Technology.

Kera further clarified that they possess all required licenses from the Ministry of Health and refuted allegations regarding the product’s manufacture in China. They asserted that a distributor misused their product images on a Chinese e-commerce platform without authorization.

In expert commentary, Lam Vinh Nien from the University Medical Center in Ho Chi Minh City stated that fiber supplements like gummies should not be substituted for fresh produce in one’s diet. He noted that processing vegetables into gummies may significantly deplete their nutritional value, thereby reducing the levels of nutrients below advertised standards.

The scrutiny surrounding Kera Gummies highlights significant health concerns, particularly regarding the accuracy of their nutritional claims. As investigations proceed into both the manufacturing processes and marketing practices of these products, the emphasis on appropriate dietary practices, including the intake of fresh produce over supplements, remains critical. This situation serves as a reminder to consumers to exercise caution and conduct diligent research before adopting supplements as meal replacements.
