Mariam has been appointed as the new head of the Burkina Faso National Meteorological Agency (ANAM) after joining the Norwegian Capacity (NORCAP) team in 2023 through their Climate Action Accelerator Programme. With her mentor Emmanuel Poan’s guidance, she effectively validated and operationalized the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, tailoring it for Burkina Faso’s specific climate challenges.
This collaborative effort has markedly enhanced ANAM’s technical capabilities in climate services, leading to improved forecast accuracy that supports agriculture, disaster risk reduction, and water resource management.
