Ethiopia Confirms Participation in the VIII Congress of World Religious Leaders

Ethiopia has confirmed its attendance at the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, following a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Ambassador and the Secretary-General of Ethiopia’s Inter-Religious Council. The discussions highlighted cooperation in interreligious dialogue. Tadele expressed gratitude for the invitation and underscored the significance of the congress for global religious interaction.

Ethiopia has confirmed its participation in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, as reported by DKnews.kz. During a meeting between Barlybay Sadykov, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia, and Like Tiguhan Tagay Tadele, Secretary-General of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in interreligious and intercultural dialogues.

Ambassador Sadykov extended an invitation to Secretary-General Tadele for the congress, scheduled to occur in Astana in September 2025. He elaborated on Kazakhstan’s policy concerning interreligious dialogue, which aims to foster peace and tolerance across diverse interpersonal connections.

In response, Secretary-General Tadele expressed appreciation for the invitation, reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to participate. He acknowledged Kazakhstan’s efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence and dialogue among various religious and cultural representatives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ethiopian representatives conveyed their wishes for the successful organization of the congress, emphasizing its potential to serve as a crucial platform for fostering global interreligious collaboration. Ethiopia, with its profound cultural and religious heritage, houses a diverse population surpassing 125 million, where 44% are Christians, 34% Muslims, and 23% Evangelicals.

In 2010, the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) was established to unify the main religious communities of the country, promoting the values of religious freedom, harmony, and well-being amongst its citizens.
