Abhishek Kaushik, President of the Amateur Soft Tennis Association of Uttar Pradesh, addressed the visa denial of Pakistan and Bangladesh teams ahead of the 2025 India International Soft Tennis Championship (ISTC). He endorsed the Indian government’s decision, stating, “We do not support terrorism, and sports cannot exist alongside it.” The championship is slated to be held from March 17 to 22, 2025, at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex and features around 150 athletes from 12 nations, including Japan and Sri Lanka.
Kaushik expressed confidence in India winning the championship again, highlighting the country’s previous success in the ISTC. He stated, “India is the winner of the last medal in the India International Soft Tennis, and this time, we are confident we will win a medal.” He also called attention to the planned World Championship in Korea and the successful organization of the upcoming events, despite the absence of participants from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The championship aims to promote soft tennis, with athletes from 15 countries participating. Kaushik affirmed that the local authorities provided substantial support to host these prestigious events. He noted, “All the overseas players from different parts of the world are pleased. All the facilities are there, and authorities have greatly helped us.”
Moreover, Kaushik praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support for sports in India, crediting initiatives like the Fit India movement. He remarked on the importance of the Prime Minister’s engagement with athletes, stating, “When our PM stands shoulder to shoulder with players, the excitement among players and federations will rise.”
